Makkum

The urban structure from the beginning of the seventeenth century with majestic merchant houses and richly decorated houses gives Makkum an urban touch. Makkum is located on the coast and have always been a harbor and fishing town. Moreover, it’s known as the Frisian centre of pottery industry.

From the IJsselmeer Makkum is easily recognizable because of the tower crane and the big hangar. The white beach of Makkumerwaard on both sides of the Makkumerdiep indicates the fairway to the harbor. Make sure that you follow fairway, because of shoals outside it. In addition to the communal anchorages, there are seven marinas in Makkum. In order to reach the southwest lake area it’s recommended to sail through the Grote Zijlroede and the Van Panhuis Kanaal in the direction of Workum.
