Workum (Warkum)

If you sail to It Soal from the IJsselmeer, you will reach a lock in two kilometers, which gives you access to the picturesque city of Workum. Very near to this lock shipyard De Hoop is situated. This company has been building and renovating ships for more than three hundred years. Characteristic for Workum is the simple brown pottery with a special decoration technique, the so called ringeloor technique. A visit of a local pottery workshop is an absolute must. Besides that, the Jopie Huisman museum is highly recommended to visit.

From the IJsselmeer Workum is easy to find. In order to reach Workum, start at buoy H2W1 and keep following the red buoys on your port side. Make sure that you don´t follow the buoys southwards, because that´s the route to Hindeloopen.
