The Zandmeer and Grote Gaastmeer are the connection between Workum and de Fluessen and the Heegermeer. The northern located peninsula between the two lakes offers good anchorage possibilities. The minimum depth, except for the western corner of the Zandmeer next to Korte Vliet, is 1.40 mts. From the Grote Gaastmeer you can reach de Fluessen en the Heegermeer through the Inthiemasloot.
The first lake in the row of four is the Heegermeer, where the village of Heeg is located. There are several anchorage possibilities and, directly on the lake, a passer-by marina. In the east of the Rakkenpôlle Island there is an easy fairway to Woudsend, passing de Rakken, without being hindered by any bridges or locks. The Johan Frisokanaal flows in the middle of these lakes and guides you from the Prinses Magrietkanaal to the IJsselmeer near to Stavoren.
On the south side of the Grote Gaastmeer the biggest of the four lakes is located: de Fluessen. This is a good sail route with 1.50 mts in depth. There are several islands located in de Fluessen, of which two have their own piers (Kruispôllen and Langehoekspôlle). Directly on the lake lies the village of Elahuizen, a small boating village with own anchorages, for example the marina of De Koggeplaet.
More to the south de Fluessen passes into De Oorden. On this lake there is the De Kuilart entertainment centre, located near Koudum. Close to de Galamadammen there are two marinas and a good hotel. De Oorden borders the lake Oud Karre to the south, from where there flows a connecting waterway to Balk and the Slotermeer. De Oorden passes into the Johan Frisokanaal and the Morra. From the Morra you are able to sail through Kruisvaart and Indijk to Hindeloopen, provided that your yacht is at most 2.15 mts.
