Koudum is located on boulder clay in the agricultural southwest of Friesland. Koudum is a probably older than a thousand years. Koudum has been a mariner village, as well as the nearby located village of Molkwerum. By contrast, nowadays there are as much farmers as mariners in the old days. The inhabitants of Koudum are called ‘beantsjes’ (beans), because the Koudum boulder clay is an ideal soil to cultivate beans.
The small harbor in Koudum is especially visited by recreational boating. Koudum is well-connected to the Frisian lakes and by passing Stavoren you can easily reach the IJsselmeer. On a low ship with a height of at most 2.15 mts. it’s also possible to get to Hindeloopen trough de Indijk.
