The route of the eleven cities
The Elfstedentocht is a classic race on ice. When the ice during the winter is thick enough, the so called Elfsteden fever reaches everybody in the Netherlands. The tour, almost 200 km in length, is conducted on frozen canals, rivers and lakes between eleven Frisian cities. Not only skaters, but also to cyclists, walkers, motorists and even glider pilots make their own Elfstedentocht every year.

The Elfsteden route shows you everything the former glorious skaters saw on their way. An ANWB waterway map (Friese meren NO, waterkaart B, Friese meren) is essential to define your own route. Important cities on the route are Grouw and Akkrum. Brakel Watersport in Terherne is without doubt the starting point of your legendary route. You don’t need a stamp card!
